Project Overview
South Wales Fire Service and Welsh Ambulance Service Trust wanted to create a joint Co-Location Emergency Services Centre for the fire and ambulance service within the existing 1970’s Barry Fire Station.
We began the project in October 2017 and completed in July 2018. The work included – but was not limited to – a complete strip-out and refit of the first floor, including all mechanical & electrical, cladding the first-floor exterior, new fire escape stair, upgrade or new windows, folding partitions, new lift and enclosure and upgrades to the external lighting.
This was not only a ‘live’ environment, but the Fire Station had to remain fully operational throughout our works.
Any possible disruption or delay caused by our works could have had life-threatening consequences.
The works were completed to a tight phased programme over six work phases, with each phase having critical deadlines to meet. For example, the Welsh Ambulance Trust’s occupation of their new First Floor Premise was driven by the exit of their current lease arrangement.
